The joy of being able to choose almost any fabric for your garden parasol, is picking something that represents your life and your mood right now. And so with that in mind, trends really don't matter. But if you're feeling spoilt for choice, and want a guide to the fabrics that feel totally 2024, see below.
When it comes to upholstery fabrics (indoors and out) we’ll continue to see maximalism dominate in 2024. Expect multiple different fabrics and patterns being used in one space, to create the look of a lifetime's gathered belongings and heirlooms. In the context of the garden, that will look like different upholstery fabrics and mis-matched patterns being used for outdoor sofas, cushions, loungers, table cloths, napkins and parasols.
Amoungst the fabric and pattern smorgasbords, these are the fabric styles we predict will mark out 2024’s style leaders, and where we'll be buying them.
Marbled
(Inspiration: @the_home_reform)
Marbled wrapping paper and marbled notebooks are an absolute luxury and we can’t resist picking them up when we spot them. Marbled fabrics are equally deluxe, and are the upholstery equivalent of a marble kitchen countertop for your home (or garden).
Gingham
(Inspiration: @cocorico_porto)
Gingham is back! Having been relegated from all interiors since the 90s, she’s back, and fitting in beautifully.
Contrast colour piping
From the few hints of this trend we’ve seen in 2023, we’re hoping to see contrast colour piping in abundance in 2024.

The piping and fringing we use on our parasols, (as they’re super fade-resistant, mould-resistant and water-resistant) are from these three super brands.
Mariaflora70’s colour palette
We expect to see more and more tobacco browns, oranges and mustards sitting alongside both bright and muted blues. (A collection of parasols inspired by vintage silk scarves is firmly on our list of future design ideas.)

Floral, but it's got to be OTT
Floral upholstery as a trend has probably never gone away, but the way it’s manifesting now, in the coolest homes, is by covering all surfaces, in the same room, often in the same print. Walls, ceilings, curtains, lampshades and furniture, all doused in the busiest of prints.

Stripes & chequerboard
Stripes became huge in 2023, and we’ve no doubt they’ll be sticking around. Expect to see stripes of different colours, styles, sizes and directions, all sitting side by side to keep in line with the not too ‘done’ style that pervades.
And keep an eye out for chequer board fabrics making an appearance as part of the stripes category.

Whilst we're battling indecision and trying to narrow down the collections and parasol styes we commit to producing each season, our bespoke design service means you can order a custom made, one-off parasol in any fabric of your choice.
So which fabric styles can you see yourself adding to your garden this year?
