The joy of being able to choose almost any fabric for your garden parasol, is picking something that represents your life and your mood right now. And so with that in mind, trends really don't matter. But if you're feeling spoilt for choice, and want a guide to the fabrics that feel totally 2026, see below.
When it comes to upholstery fabrics (indoors and out) we’ll continue to see maximalism dominate. Expect multiple different fabrics and patterns being used in one space, to create the look of a lifetime's gathered belongings and heirlooms. In the context of the garden, that will take the shape of different upholstery fabrics and mis-matched patterns being used for outdoor sofas, cushions, loungers, table cloths, napkins and parasols.
Amoungst the fabric and pattern smorgasbords, these are the fabric styles we predict will mark out 2026’s style leaders, and where we'll be buying them.
Tartan & checks
Nicola Harding released images of this beautiful living room with a footstool upholstered in two different checked fabrics, and suddenly we all wanted some in our lives.

Interior design studio Faeger's country cottage also features a checked footstool. Who knows who came first. The look is warm, timeless, like you didn’t try too hard but got it just right.

Merchant & Mills have all the cotton checked fabrics you could dream of.

Welsh blankets
We blame Kendall Jenner and her mountain house designed by Heidi Caillier.

Swiftly followed by Good Bones' loft room renovation.

Melin Tregwynt is the place to buy traditional woven Welsh fabrics.
Classic gingham
Interiors have teetered on the egde of embracing gingham for the last few years, but in 2026 we’re going all in. When it sits in a scheme with other patterns, styles and colours, gingham is the perfect way to add variety to a maximalist look, without adding chaos.

This year, we'll be making a parasol with this Schumacher outdoor gingham fabric.

Small prints
Big bold patterns are out. Small detail prints are in.
Howe at 36 Bourne Street is our top pick for small print fabrics.

This bathroom by Carlos Garcia Interiors has captured the hearts of many an Instagram scroller.

Stripes as a counterbalance
Stripes are a long term trend. How we’re seeing them used in 2026 is never in isolation, but alongside other patterns for the perfect maximalist look. Showcased perfectly here by Robert Kime.

Whilst we're battling indecision and trying to narrow down the fabrics we'll be turning into parasols this year, our bespoke design service means your own parasol can be custom made in any fabric of your choice.
