Since starting Plia Parasols, I have been more acutely aware of supporting small businesses, local businesses, and British businesses. Every penny we spend in life is a small vote for the types of businesses we want to see thrive.
Through our first 12 months of dealing in parasols, these are some of the British garden furniture companies we have found our parasols accompanying in the gardens of our clients.
1. Harrod Horticultural handcraft intricate steel garden furniture in Suffolk, guaranteeing each piece for 25 years. Even individual chairs are robust enough to withstand the very strongest of winds without moving an inch. These heirloom pieces will last for generations if looked after.
2. Gaze Burvill design and manufacture premium chestnut and oak garden furniture at their HQ in Hampshire, which supports a team of over 30 people. Good design and sustainability have been at the heart of their work for over 30 years. Their steam bent benches, originally designed for RHS Garden Wisley are their most recognisable product.
3. Started over 30 years ago by an interior designer seeking outdoor furniture to meet the requirements of her clients, The Heveningham Collection’s iron furniture is all custom made in England. Tabletops can be supplied in granite, limestone, marble, sandstone or glass and their distinctive yet timeless designs can be spotted in luxury hotels around the world.
4. Oxenwood was established in 2014 by a former corporate lawyer with a passion for design, originally seeking an elegant yet low maintenance outside table for his own garden. The company now specialises in large and oversize tables, regularly making tables of up to six metres in length at their workshop in Wiltshire.
5. The Daybed Company. They make one thing and they make it well. These handwoven, hardwood garden loungers are beautiful enough to live indoors, and durable enough to last a lifetime outdoors. Each one is made with love in Sussex and they are a visitor favourite at the annual Chelsea Flower Show.
6. Huckleberry make their beautiful, traditional, oak garden kitchens in Somerset. These kitchens know their audience and can come fitted with Big Green Eggs, Gozney Pizza Ovens and Wolf appliances. Aside from their kitchens, their uniquely elegant oak garden sofa is a personal favourite.
7. It’s thirty years since Oxley’s started, and they continue to make ultra-durable aluminium outdoor furniture in the Cotswolds. Their tables and chairs can be left outside all year round, no matter where in the world, and will last generations, with no maintenance required. Their unique guarantee offers to buy back any piece of furniture you’ve bought from them, within 10 years of you buying it, for half its original price, knowing that they can reprocess it and give it a second life in a new garden.
8. Started in 2014, Coco Wolf make luxury outdoor furniture at their workshop in Derbyshire. Being made to order in the UK means you can choose from 11 different woods for the frames, and hundreds of different fabrics for the upholstery.
When it comes to outdoor furniture, it pays to invest in the highest quality possible. For the limited number of days we get to truly enjoy our gardens in the UK, you want to be able spend that time leaning back and looking up. Luxury garden furniture that combines design with durability, means you can forget maintenance, and get straight to the enjoyment.
Furniture made to last a generation, is also the most sustainable furniture you’ll ever buy.
