Plia Parasols was started because we couldn’t find a garden parasol that lived up to our desires. Surely it wasn’t too much to ask for a parasol that looked and felt like it belonged alongside the fabrics and soft furnishings of our interiors. Particularly as homes are increasingly designed to blend indoor and outdoor living, it didn’t make sense to have linen curtains and wool rugs inside, and then a faded polyester parasol outside.
The founders of Amelfi had the exact same thought process when creating their outdoor soft furnishing business in 2019. They were hitting a brick wall when looking for bench cushions, seat pads and sun lounger mattresses for their own gardens. The off-the-shelf options were utterly uninspiring, and they couldn’t find anyone who made bespoke options, using the wide variety of premium outdoor fabrics they’d discovered. And so the Hampshire-based business began.
Like us, all of their sewing is done in the UK, and we often find ourselves working on projects with the exact same fabrics.
All of the fabrics they use are water, stain, mould and UV resistant and their cushions are cleverly combined with inserts to prevent water absorption.

If you have outdoor furniture from a known British manufacturer, they may well already have the pattern for the cushions you need, or they may ask you to send your cushions for a perfect fit. Either way, the trickiest part will be choosing your fabric and piping options.
